We are thrilled to FINALLY be inducting the Rome Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2022. Having
been unable to gather for an Induction Weekend for 2 years due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are
excited to host an entire weekend of events for our Inductions. The Hall will be honoring 6
individuals whose Lifetimes of Excellence have greatly impacted the sporting heritage of the City of
Rome. Being honored this year are, Calvin Griggs, Phyllis Niemi, Mike Orbinati, JR Purrington, Joe
Ryan and Randy Williams. Each has impacted sports in the city they love.

The weekend events will commence with participation in the Honor America Days Parade on
Saturday, July 30. The Inductees, or their family members in the cases of our 2 deceased Inductees,
will be proudly riding in the parade. Please acknowledge their sporting excellence as they pass by
your location along the parade route. At 2pm on Sunday, July 31, there will be a Plaque Placing
Ceremony at the Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. This event is open to the public at no
cost. Sports columnist, author and Rome Sports Hall of Fame Inductee, Scott Pitoniak, will be the
MC as each Inductee places his/her Induction Plaque on the wall of honor at the Hall. This is a
great event you’ll be glad you attended. While waiting for the festivities to start, or once it ends, feel
free to browse through the artifacts and exhibits on display at the Hall.

The weekend culminates with the Induction Dinner at The Vernon Downs Hotel Ballroom. Tickets
for this event are on sale at the Hall of Fame for $35 for adults and $15 for children. Tickets must
be purchased by July 24 in order to secure your place at the banquet. In addition to honoring our 6
Inductees, the Hall of Fame will also recognize the Ellie Bruce Team of Excellence, Frank Clark
Service Award winners and local high school sports personalities. It’s a memorable event with
stories from the Inductees, good food and a great atmosphere. Join us in honoring those individuals
that have put Rome on the sporting map and have represented our city so well in a Lifetime of
